Dear Friends and Supporters,

We invite you to join us for the Belmont Against Racism Annual Meeting will take place this Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Belmont Public Library - Morrissey Hall (336 Concord Ave, Belmont). Light refreshments will be served.

Keynote

We are honored to welcome Dr. Darnell Thigpen Williams—educational leader, scholar, and equity strategist—as this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Williams will share insights from his research on transforming K–12 education and introduce Protective Enactment Theory, a framework focused on culturally grounded practices that affirm and sustain Black students’ dignity, belonging, and academic excellence. He will also offer practical strategies for educators, families, and community members. Dr. Williams currently serves as Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Well-Being for Belmont Public Schools and brings more than 25 years of experience in education and equity leadership.

Live Music

This year’s program will also feature a special live musical performance by Bithyah Israel and Sean Antongiorgi of City Strings United, a Boston-based nonprofit youth music program that empowers children in historically excluded communities through free, high-quality cello education, mentorship, and performance opportunities that foster confidence, discipline, and personal growth.

Election

Please note: BAR members are asked to attend the election of the new Board of Directors, which will precede the keynote presentation. Voting will begin promptly at 6:30 PM, so we encourage members to arrive early.

We hope you will join us for this inspiring evening of community connection, organizational updates, meaningful dialogue, and music.

Please RSVP today!

Warm regards,
